Sources: Gwyneth Paltrow to Follow Rabbinical Heritage, Convert to Judaism

After previously calling herself both a “Jewish princess” and “the original Jewish mother,” actress Gwyneth Paltrow has decided to convert to Judaism, the New York Post‘s Page Six reported on Thursday night, citing inside sources.
Paltrow’s late father, film producer Bruce Paltrow, was Jewish while her mother, Blythe Danner, is Christian. The Iron Man star has said she was raised both Jewish and Christian, adding that it “was such a nice way to grow up.”
The Oscar winner has been a follower of Kabbalah for a number of years and is friends with co-director of the Kabbalah Center Michael Berg.
The actress’ rep did not respond to numerous requests for comment, Page Six said.
In a 2006 interview with The Guardian, the mother of two said that her father descended from a Russian rabbinical dynasty, Page Six noted. She was quoted as saying, “Like, 17 generations of rabbis — you see, I really am a Jewish princess!” In 2011 she appeared on NBC’s ancestry show Who Do You Think You Are? which showed that her family did indeed come from a long line of European rabbis, according to Israel’s Ynet News.
After appearing on the show, Paltrow reportedly said she wants to raise her daughter Apple, 10, and son Moses, 8, in a Jewish environment, even though their father, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin is Christian. The couple separated in March 2014 after 11 years of marriage.
While promoting her cookbook It’s All Good in 2013, Paltrow called herself “the original Jewish mother” due to her delight in cooking for others.
“Creating a meal for my family and friends, sitting together, eating, laughing and talking, that’s when I’m happy. Oh my God, if you saw the amount of food that I do. I am the original Jewish mother,” she said. “I make meals from these new recipes that look, smell and taste like the food I always cooked, but are also super healthy. That is an additional joy.”
