A reported Jerusalem- based, ISIS-supporting group on Sunday called on “lone wolves” to kill Twitter employees who close down supporting accounts, the website Vocativ reported on Tuesday.
“#TheConceptOfLoneWolfAttacks The time has arrived to respond to Twitter’s management by directly attacking their employees and physically assassinating them!!” the group said, ironically, on Twitter, the UK-based Daily Mail reported.
“Those who will carry this out are the sleepers cells of death,” one tweet said, according to the site.
“Twitter management should know that if they do not stop their campaign in the virtual world, we will bring the war to them in the real world on the ground,” the group warned.
“Every Twitter employee in San Francisco in the United States should bear in mind and watch over himself because on his doorstep there might be a lone wolf assassin waiting,” user @dawlamoon threatened.
The account, at least according to Vocativ, “purportedly represents Al Nusra Al Maqdisia (The Supporters of Jerusalem)—a Jerusalem-based group that pledged loyalty to ISIS in February,” of 2014.
Additionally, the group called on EU-based supporters, declaring that, “#AttackingTwitterEmployees is on the agenda of mujahedeen and lone wolves who are across Europe.”
Meanwhile, Twitter staffers in San Francisco are working to shut down the pages – each apparently bearing slight changes in title or spelling – as they are created, the Daily Mail said.
The report said there are a dozen Twitter offices within the US, five in Europe. three in Asia, two in Latin America, two in Canada, and one in Australia.
“Our security team is investigating the veracity of these threats with relevant law enforcement officials,” according to a Twitter corporate spokesman.
