The IDF on Wednesday redeployed Iron Dome anti-missile system batteries to the Sderot and Netivot areas near the Gaza Strip, the local 0404 news site reported.
The move comes after a mortar was fired into the southern region of Israel, adjacent to the coastal enclave on Tuesday. There were no physical injuries or damages from the strike, according to local officials.
Hamas denied any knowledge of the launch on Tuesday and reiterated the commitment by Palestinian factions in Gaza to the cease-fire reached after the recent Operation Protective Edge.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “It is clear to Hamas that we will not accept sporadic firing; therefore, it took care to make it clear that those who carried out the firing have been arrested and that it is committed to the ceasefire.”
Netanyahu made the statement during a visit to an intelligence base, active in Protective Edge.
Hamas sources, however, denied Netanyahu’s statement Wednesday, saying that they didn’t arrest those who fired the rocket at Israel on Tuesday, according to The Jerusalem Post’s Khaled Abu Toameh.
In any case, the army will continue to bolster forces in the vicinity, due to terror groups’ presumed aim of resuming sporadic rocket fire, according to the 0404 report.
A day earlier, two projectiles which were fired from within Gaza fell short, but set off sirens within Israel due to their trajectory.
Meanwhile, Hamas leader Moussa Abu Marzouq on Wednesday said indirect ceasefire negotiations between Palestinians and Israel would resume within the next week, according to the Palestinian Ma’an News Agency.
The talks would “would definitely be before the 24th of the current month,” Abu Marzouq reportedly said.
Fighting in the 50-day conflict ceased on Aug. 26th.
