Life After Presidency: Shimon Peres Goes Skydiving, Searches for New Job (VIDEO)
by Shiryn Ghermezian
A new tongue-in-cheek video shows Israel’s Shimon Peres, having just retired from the presidency after decades of public service, hunting for a new occupation.
Posted to YouTube on Monday, the clip, which premiered recently at the annual Atlantic Council conference in New York City, shows the president meeting an unemployment officer who rejects his extensive experience as being useless in a modern world.
The former Israeli president and prime minister then tries his hand at various professions, including a stand-up comedian, grocery store cashier, security guard and pizza delivery guy. Along the way he espouses his life philosophy and alludes to events that took place during his tenure.
The video ends with Peres skydiving over Israel. “The future belongs to those who dare,” he tells a reluctant fellow traveler.
After landing in an empty field, Peres tells his partner, “Let’s go, we have lots of work to do.” But “there’s nothing here,” his associate protests. Peres replies, “When there’s nothing, you can do anything.”
