Yom Kippur: Entire Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron Will Be Open to Jews

In a sudden turn of events, Jews will be allowed to hold Yom Kippur services this year at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, according to a last minute deal reached between Israeli and Palestinian Authority officials, Israel’s 0404 News reported Thursday night.
Friday afternoon, Yom Kippur eve, Jews will have access to parts of the structure between 4:30 PM and 11:30 PM, which is shared with Palestinians, who refer to the Herodian-era structure as the Ibrahami Mosque.
According to Jewish tradition, the Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and the Matriarchs, Sarah, Rebecca, and Leah are buried at the site, which is also venerated by Muslims, hence Abraham’s name, in Arabic – Ibrahim.
“I am pleased to announce that a compromise formula was found to hold at least some of the prayers, including in the Isaac Hall,” Housing and Construction Minister Uri Ariel said, of the agreement.
