JNS.org – Jewish actor Shia LaBeouf has claimed that he converted to Christianity in an new interview with Moment Magazine, an assertion that is being questioned by the media given LaBeouf’s record as a prankster.
LaBeouf is currently seen in movie theaters playing the role of the Christian soldier Boyd “Bible” Swan in Fury, also starring Brad Pitt. In the interview LaBeouf said that he “found God doing Fury. I became a Christian man, and not in a fucking bullshit way — in a very real way.”
But according to Haaretz, LaBeouf as previously responsible for such stunts as appearing at the Berlinale International Film Festival’s red carpet with a bag over his head with the writing “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE.”
In the past LaBeouf has also spoke out about his pride about being Jewish, saying he feels “cocky” when calling himself Jewish in a contribution to the book I am Jewish in 2004, the International Business Times reported.
“Not bad cocky, but good cocky,” LaBeouf said. “Because what I am really saying is that I am one of the few chosen ones out there.”
The Religion News Service has said that “some people won’t be convinced, especially those who really want to believe that LaBeouf is a Christian now because having famous people on ‘our’ side makes ‘our’ case stronger,” but after watching the movie and then re-reading the interview, it will be clear that “Shia was laughing his way to the bank over all the hubbub.”
