Justin Bieber Spends Three Hours With Los Angeles Rabbi
by Shiryn Ghermezian
Pop superstar Justin Bieber reportedly spent three hours talking with a rabbi on Wednesday at the Westside Jewish Community Center in Los Angeles, the UK’s Daily Mail reported.
The 20-year-old Grammy nominee, who was raised Christian, was seen leaving the center and getting into his Rolls-Royce with three members of his entourage. He later posted on Instagram a photo from inside his car captioned, “Be intentional with everything you do,” the Daily Mail noted. The picture has since been removed.
It is unclear what Bieber discussed with the rabbi or why they met but according to the Daily Mail, the singer is exploring his spirituality. He also attended a late-night bible study class on Nov. 10 at Manhattan’s Hillsong Church alongside models Kendall Jenner and Hailey Baldwin.
TMZ reported that Bieber “has exiled himself from friends, alcohol, weed and everything else that doesn’t involve the good Lord.”
The Boyfriend singer has the word “Yeshua,” which many believe to be Jesus’ Hebrew or Aramaic name, tattooed in Hebrew letters on the left side of his torso. He first learned about Judaism at age 13 from his manager Scooter Braun, the Daily Mail said. Braun told the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth in 2010 that Bieber would recite a Christian prayer and then the Jewish prayer of Shema Yisrael before each of his concerts.
Bieber’s mother, Pattie Mallette, at first wanted her son to sign with a Christian label and manager instead of Braun. She recalled praying, “God, you don’t want this Jewish kid to be Justin’s man, do you?”
