Jewish Republican Congressman-Elect Criticizes Obama Admin for Not Having the ‘Most Intelligent Approach’ With Israel

Jewish Congressman-elect Lee Zeldin blasted President Obama’s foreign policy approach towards Israel and dismissed the administration’s assertion that the U.S. remains close with the Jewish state, the New York Post reported recently.
“He (Obama) seems to create more daylight every week he’s in office,” Zeldin, 34, told the Post. “I don’t think they’ve had the most intelligent, disciplined approach with regards to our relationship with Israel.”
Zeldin beat six-term Rep. Tim Bishop (D-Southampton) by a 10-point margin on Nov. 4 for Long Island’s First District. The House and Senate now have 31 Jewish members, 30 Democrats and independent Sen. Bernie Sanders, who caucuses with the Democrats.
Zeldin, the only Jewish Republican in Congress, also took a swing at the White House’s nuclear negotiations with Iran as well as its criticism of Israeli building in Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recently warned the U.S. against getting too close to Iran. “Iran is not your ally. Iran is not your friend. Iran is your enemy. It’s not your partner. Iran is committed to the destruction of Israel,” he said.
Zeldin thinks he will be more active in challenging Obama’s approach to Israel than Congress’ Jewish Democrats, since they are limited in criticizing their party leader.
“I’m sure that I’d be able to find a lot to disagree on with [Congressman] Eliot Engel,” the Iraq war veteran told the Post.
