Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg admitted late last week that one of her granddaughters called her out for dozing off during President Obama’s State of the Union address in January, The Blaze reported.
“I got a call when I came home from one of my granddaughters and she said, ‘Bubbe, you were sleeping at the State of the Union!'” she recalled while addressing an audience at George Washington University.
Ginsberg also confessed she was not “100 percent sober” for the President’s address and blamed her state on a “very fine California wine” provided by Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
“Before we went to the State of the Union, Justice Kennedy brought in … it was an Opus something or other, very fine California wine, and I vowed this year, just sparkling water, stay away from the wine, but in the end, the dinner was so delicious, it needed wine,” Ginsburg, 81, said.
Ginsburg said that in the past retired Justice David Souter would sit next to her and help keep her awake during speeches but her current colleagues, Justices Kennedy and Stephen Breyer, are “sort of timid about it.”
