Most Jewish Israelis believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu’s address to Congress last week helped Israel, according to a recently released poll conducted by the Israeli Democracy Institute.
The poll, concluded close to the time of the Prime Minister’s speech to Congress, revealed that a majority of the Jewish population in Israel is convinced that the address will help Israel, and believes that the primary motivation for his speech was Netanyahu’s belief that it might change the American position regarding the desired outcome of negotiations with Iran, Israel’s NRG reported.
The poll also queried Israelis about who they believed was responsible for the recent deterioration in Israeli-American governmental relations, and revealed a significant gap in responses between right-wing and left-wing voters. 60% of self-identified right-wing voters blamed the Obama Administration for the deterioration in relations, whereas 80% of those who defined themselves as left-leaning believed that Netanyahu was responsible for the tensions.
The poll also revealed that the events of the last few weeks had little to no effect on the public’s feelings about the post-elections coalition, and 61% of the Jewish sector believed that the right had better chances of forming a government.
