An unprecedented level of security personnel accompanied the Prime Minister during his speech in honor of Yom HaZikaron. PHOTO: Channel 2
As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took part today in services for Israel’s Memorial Day – Yom HaZikaron – on Jerusalem’s Mount Herzl, he was surrounded by an exceptionally large and unprecedented security detail, Israel’s Channel 2 news reported.
The security detail included hundreds of personnel. To ensure the Prime Minister’s safety, a unit of security officers specializing in protecting dignitaries was stationed on Mount Herzl, including elite Yamam officers. Snipers were positioned throughout the area, accompanied by soldiers with binoculars, ready to detect any threat to the Prime Minister’s safety.
Photos from the ceremony showed the armed security guards, some of them masked, standing next to Prime Minister Netanyahu and guarding his motorcade for the duration of the ceremony for Israel’s fallen soldiers and security personnel.
The security guards have become necessary because of the Prime Minister’s many long and public events which are made known to the public in advance, including the timing and location, Channel 2 news reported.
