In two recent interviews on the Palestinian Authority’s official television station, Palestinian pundits repeated antisemitic tropes as if they were factual, with one interviewee claiming that Jews wanted to conquer the world, and another claiming that Judaism is an extreme and racist religion which allows the killing of Gentiles.
In an interview on Palestine TV, Osama Al-Qawasmi, a spokesman for PA President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party, quoted the infamous Russian forgery, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion as if it were a factual document, watchdog group Palestinian Media Watch reported.
Alleging reasons behind Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, Qawasmi said, “According to Israel’s ideology, strategy and policy from 1956 until now, Gaza is outside the Israeli ideological thinking. Even in their Protocols [of the Elders of Zion] and even in their Bible [it says]: don’t live in Gaza.”
The antisemitic Protocols of the Elders of Zion was first published in Russia in 1902, and tells of the Jews’ alleged plans to subjugate the world to Jewish rule.
The second interviewee was Dr. Ibrahim Abrash, a political science professor at Al-Azhar University in Gaza, who claimed that Judaism is based on extremist and racist principles, and that it permits stealing from and killing Gentiles.
When asked what led the Israeli public to “lean towards extremism” in the recent elections, Abrash responded that “the structure of the Zionist ideology, and even the structure of the Jewish religion, are based on extremism.”
Al-Abrash then elaborated on the alleged extremist nature of Judaism and how it deals with non-Jews, saying, “The term ‘Gentiles’ exists in the Jewish religion, ‘us vs. the Gentiles’ and it is permitted to steal from and kill Gentiles,” adding that, “the Zionist ideology came into being, based on denial of the existence of the other, the denial and lack of recognition of us, the Palestinians.”
Israel has derided the Palestinian Authority, which rules the West Bank, for continuing to incite to antisemitism through official channels, such as Palestinian Education Ministry-approved textbooks and the official media.
