A Saudi Arabian passenger jet landed at the international airport in Tel Aviv on Wednesday for technical repairs, a photograph posted on Twitter by an Israeli diplomat purported to show.
“At the Tel Aviv airport, a Saudi Arabian Airbus landed today, arriving for technical repairs,” tweeted David Dadonn, Israeli ambassador in the Foreign Ministry’s Middle East Department.
Dadonn, who was Israel’s ambassador to Chile until 2014, posted the picture on Wednesday afternoon. It shows a Saudi Arabian Airlines’ passenger jet taxiing on the tarmac, which Dadonn said is Ben-Gurion International Airport.
Israel and Saudi Arabia have no diplomatic relations, but both countries have a shared interest in rebuffing mutual enemy Iran’s expanding regional influence.
Reports have surfaced of secret ties between the two, mostly concerning regional policy and Iran.
Saudi Arabia, like Israel, also supported the overthrow of Egypt’s former Muslim Brotherhood president, Mohamed Morsi, by the Egyptian military.
