A leading Jewish NGO called on the U.S., the U.K and other nations negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran to condemn Tehran’s ongoing threats to destroy Israel.
“Now is the time for the United States, Germany, France and England to finally demand that Iran drop its genocidal threats against Israel,” said Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, in a statement.
He quoted a recent threat by a representative of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, saying “the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has divine permission to destroy Israel.”
“The noble Qur’an permits the Islamic Republic of Iran to destroy Israel,” said Khamenei representative Mojtabi Zalnoor — who was reportedly pessimistic about the likely outcome of the nuclear deal — and no accord would curb Iran’s “determination to destroy” the Jewish state either, he added.
Cooper was attending the 5th Global Forum for Combating Antisemitism taking place this week in Jerusalem, which discussed antisemitism in the Muslim and Arab world, combating Holocaust denial and protecting Jewish religious practice, among other subjects.
Speakers at the forum on Wednesday included Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who derided Iran for being the world leader in “systematically” propagating antisemitism, and Jewish Home Party chairman Naftali Bennett.
