British MP Tobias Ellwood said on Wednesday that the U.K. was committed to opposing measures to boycott Israel.
In a message he sent out on Twitter, the Conservative MP said he spoke to Israeli National Security Adviser Yossi Cohen and reaffirmed the UK’s “commitment to Israel and opposition to boycotts.”
Ellwood’s comments came as the National Union of Students in the U.K., the largest student union in the country, voted to adopt boycott measures against Israel.
He also said the two had a “good discussion on Gaza.”
Meanwhile, Britain will continue to combat antisemitism “seriously,” a new junior minister pledged at a parliamentary meeting on Tuesday.
Susan Williams, Baroness Williams of Trafford and a new junior Conservative minister, said the new government would uphold previous initiatives.
She said the new government, led again by Prime Minister David Cameron, was committed to reporting regularly on tackling antisemitism, according to the British Jewish Chronicle.
A 120-page report released in February included a list of measures to tackle rising antisemitism in the country, and politicians at Tuesday’s meeting were told that 37 initiatives had already been implemented, according to the Jewish Chronicle.
