The partners managing The Huffington Post’s new Arabic edition are Muslim Brotherhood sympathizers, Lebanese NOW News reported last week.
According to the report, Egyptian Anas Fouda is the new editor-in-chief of HuffPost Arabi and is an open supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood, Egypt’s oldest and most dominating Islamist movement. He has linked to articles praising Egyptian cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi, who questions the scale of the Holocaust.
Fouda was previously an executive producer at the flagship Al Jazeera Arabic station, where he worked under his former boss and new partner, Wadah Khanfar, a man described by NOW as the “heavyweight of the pair.”
Khanfar — a former CEO at Al Jazeera — preached his support for the Muslim Brotherhood following the 2012 Egyptian elections that brought one of their leaders to power, though the president, Mohamed Morsi, was deposed just a year later by the army, one of whose former generals rules the country today.
He believed the Muslim Brotherhood presidential win proved the Arab Spring “was still alive.”
Former colleagues of Khanfar noted that under his leadership “the liberals, the secular types, the Arab nationalists [were] getting downsized” in favor of a domineering Islamic position. Other coworkers echoed these observations.
