Girl Shatters 2,000-Year-Old Roman Era Vase at Israel Museum

A young visitor to the Israel Museum in Jerusalem accidentally broke a 2,000-year-old glass vase, Israel’s Channel 2 reported on Tuesday.
The vase, from the time of the Roman occupation of Judea and Israel, was part of an exhibit of rare items from the Roman, Byzantine and ancient Egyptian eras, donated by New York philanthropists Robert and Renee Belfer.
The unusual incident occurred at noon on Sunday, when a young girl on an outing with her family, unaware of warning signs not to touch the displays, approached the exhibit — valued at millions of dollars — and rocked the glass case encompassing the vase. The ancient vessel fell and broke along a previously repaired crack. The vase was immediately rushed to a special laboratory in the museum to be restored.
The story ended happily, however, when the museum announced that the little girl’s accident prompted repairs that leave the vase in better shape than before.
