JNS.org – On the 14th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, Jewish National Fund-Keren Kayemet LeYisrael (JNF-KKL) held a memorial ceremony outside of Jerusalem in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy.
The ceremony was held at the the Israeli 9/11 memorial, which is the largest memorial site for the terror attacks outside the U.S.
“This is a torch for those who want and believe in peace and in the rights of human beings. We today salute the fighters and the families of the victims, and we look forward to better times,” said JNF-KKL Chairman Efi Stenzler.
“On the one hand, we want peace, on the other hand, we will not give in to those who attack and destroy civilization,” he said.
Nearly 3,000 people were killed on 9/11 when two planes, hijacked by Al Qaeda terrorists, crashed into New York City’s World Trade Center towers. Another plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, while a fourth plan crashed into the Pentagon.
Despite the passage of 14 years since the attacks, a Congressional panel warned last week that the number of attempted jihadist attacks in the U.S. is higher today it was in 2001.
The House of Representatives Homeland Security Committee, which released a terror report back in August, said that the number of cases involving U.S.-bred jihadi terrorists has reached 124, which is a major rise from the 38 cases reported in 2010.
Furthermore, “There have been more U.S.-based jihadist terror cases in 2015 than in any full year since [September 11, 2001],” the August report states.
