One consequence of the recent wave of stabbing attacks gripping Israel has been a boosted interest in self-defense, whether through martial arts or measures such as carrying pepper spray — perhaps nun-chucks, or an umbrella.
But the dizzying spike in knifing attacks by assailants ranging in age from young teenagers to adult women has prompted some local businesspeople to offer other solutions on platforms popular among Israelis, such as the e-commerce marketplace, Groupon.
One local merchant, for example, is offering stab-proof vests.
“Feel secure and protected anywhere you go with civilian body armor, providing protection against stabbing attempts and sharp objects,” reads the advertisement.
Boasting a 50 percent sale, the body armor was being offered up, “All for just 249 shekels [$65].”
For family shoppers, the merchant even offered deals for purchasing more than one of the 2.2 kilogram, metal-plated, stab-proof vests, although they are admittedly all one size. The seller also made sure his buyers beware: the company is “only responsible for delivery of the product.”
