A Goodwill store in Berkeley, California, removed a Holocaust-themed Halloween costume from its racks, ABC 13 news reported on Monday.
The costume in question featured a loose, striped top fashioned to look like the garb of concentration camp prisoners, affixed with the iconic yellow star of David.
Before removing the costume, the Goodwill store, part of the ubiquitous U.S. thrift-shop chain, said it had been unaware of the resemblance.
The Nazi-era-themed costume was also vaguely reminiscent of a 2014 shirt by Spanish fashion retailer Zara, which was meant to remind shoppers of the Wild West, but which instead was uncanny in its resemblance to a Holocaust prison uniform — as it also boasted the yellow, Jewish hexagram.
Following a public outcry, Zara removed the shirt from its line.
