Despite the wave of terrorist attacks plaguing Israel, Israelis must not become inciters or resort to violence, said Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon on Tuesday, according to Army Radio.
“Even as our blood boils, we must not give up on our values,” Ya’alon told a gathering of kibbutz leaders. “We can allow neither internal incitement nor violence.”
Ya’alon’s comments were in reaction to the arrest of a Netanya man who allegedly plowed his way through police with a wooden plank, attempting to strike a terrorist who had been subdued while carrying out a stabbing attack.
The man allegedly hit one of the officers, who stopped him and others from reaching the terrorist, who had just stabbed an elderly man, before police shot him and neutralized the danger he posed. According to Israeli reports, a mob of riled-up bystanders gathered around the attacker after he was subdued by police.
Israeli security forces — police and the IDF — have been working to restore quiet in Israel after weeks of near-daily, lone-wolf attacks targeting Israelis. On Monday, in addition to the Netanya stabbing, three others were wounded in a stabbing attack in Rishon LeZion, and in the Old City of Jerusalem, a tour guide was wounded when a Palestinian man smashed a bottle over her head. Most of the attacks since October 1 have been carried out in Jerusalem or the West Bank.
