A group of three individuals harassed a Jewish man wearing a kippah in Berlin, the German Research and Information Center on Antisemitism reported last weekend.
The incident occurred on Karl-Marx-Straße in Neukölln, which is known for its large Muslim communities, but also for increasing numbers of artists and students who have moved in over the years.
According to the report, the three men badgered the individual, calling him “Yehudi,” which is Arabic for Jew. The incident occurred near the metro station by Neukölln’s City Hall.
Germany registered 1,596 antisemitic events in 2014, including 45 politically violent attacks with an antisemitic motive, according to the 2014 EU Agency for Fundamental Rights report, which was up from previous years, but below the 2009 high of 1,690. Both 2014 and 2009 were years that saw intense Israeli-Palestinian clashes as a result of Hamas terror from Gaza.
