The teenage terrorist who stabbed a guard on Jerusalem’s Light Rail on Tuesday confessed to interrogators that he had boarded the train with the intent to stab a Jew, Israel’s Channel 10 reported on Wednesday.
The 14-year-old said he was motivated to carry out the attack to avenge the death of his 19-year-old cousin, Mohammad Ali, from east Jerusalem’s Shuafat neighborhood, who was killed by Israeli Border Police a month ago near the Old City’s Damascus Gate after he stabbed one of them.
On Tuesday, the 14-year-old and his 11-year-old cousin committed the terrorist act together. Video footage of the incident shows them stabbing a security guard, who managed to draw his sidearm and shoot one of them, leaving him in moderate-to-serious condition. It also reveals the guard hesitating before firing on the other boy, possibly due to his young age, and passengers coming to his aid to subdue the assailant.
