Iranian and Russian representatives convened on Wednesday to discuss the expansion of nuclear cooperation between their two countries, Iranian state-run Mehr News Agency reported.
Mehdi Sanaei, the Iranian ambassador to Moscow, met with Nicolai Spassky, deputy head of Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation, to review the process of nuclear cooperation. The meeting covered the current status of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Protocol of Action (JCPOA) and plans for Russia to assist Iran in the construction of two new nuclear power plants in Bushehr.
Russia and Iran had agreed last November that Moscow would help finance the construction of the Bushehr-2 and Bushehr-3 plants.
The two officials also discussed the launching of isotope-producing units in the Fordow nuclear site within the framework of the JCPOA.
In September, Ali Akbar Salehi, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, said that the Russians had expressed their readiness to upgrade Iran’s centrifuges for the purpose of producing isotopes.
