A stray bullet apparently fired from the Gaza Strip was discovered lodged in the wooden floor of a house in an Israeli community near the Gaza border, Israeli Channel 2 reported on Friday.
According to the report, the bullet was discovered by the homeowner after he returned to the Netiv HaAsara community from a stint abroad. The 7.62 millimeter bullet was the type fired from a Kalashnikov assault rifle, and was apparently fired within the previous three days.
Yair Farjon, the head of the Ashkelon Beach Regional Council, said he expected Israel to erect secure barriers around the vulnerable communities near the Gaza Strip, which have faced rocket attacks for a decade and a half.
He said, “Single bullets or fusillades have a known potential to kill.”
In September, another stray bullet smashed a window and struck a television at a home in Netiv HaAsara, while two children, aged 6 and 9, were watching. The IDF said the bullet had been fired from a Hamas training camp in Gaza.
