An IDF soldier is in critical condition after being stabbed by a Palestinian terrorist at a checkpoint in the Hebron hills, Israeli site nrg reported on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, approximately 20 years old, was given first aid by Magen David Adom and Hatzalah paramedics who arrived at the scene, before being evacuated to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he is being treated for wounds to his torso.

The terrorist was shot by IDF forces stationed at the checkpoint, near the al-Fawwar refugee camp. According to initial reports, the assailant drove up to the checkpoint, exited his car and stabbed the Israeli, before being neutralized. He is in serious condition and also being treated at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

The incident took place at the site of the Oct. 20 murder of Kiryat Arba resident Avraham (Asher) Hasno, who was run over by a Palestinian driver who fled the scene, but later turned himself in to the police, claiming it was a hit-and-run accident, not a terrorist attack. Hasno had exited his car when Palestinians had blocked the road with burning tires.

Two weeks ago, the defense establishment determined that Hasno had actually been hit on purpose, and therefore he is being granted status as a terror victim, according to nrg.

Last week, at the end of the 30-day mourning period for Haso, the Har Hebron Regional Council officially changed the name of the intersection to “The Avraham Junction,” in his memory.
