Moments after being called to task for referring to the Israeli victims of the Munich Massacre as “terrorists,” the UK’s Daily Mirror amended its content, a British watchdog group reported on Wednesday.
UK Media Watch noted that an article in the British tabloid on the upcoming documentary film, “Munich 1972 & Beyond” – in which gruesome new details of the torture of the Jewish athletes competing in the 1972 Olympics in Germany — opened with a description of the victims as “terrorists,” and the Palestinians who murdered them in cold blood as belonging to the “militant group” Black September.
These references appeared twice – once in the sub-headline and again in the second paragraph of the piece.
UK Media Watch responded by exposing the egregious “editing error” — or purposeful statement — on social media and by sending a tweet to its author, Sam Webb. The piece was then corrected, leaving in the reference to the terrorists as “militants,” but calling the Israeli victims simply “athletes.”
