As medical staff at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem struggled to save the life of the victim of Monday’s terrorist attack near Hebron, an eyewitness described to Israel’s Army Radio the hectic scene of the stabbing.
“Suddenly, I heard three explosions,” said Yitzhak Martziano.
“I see people in the direction of the waiting zone for hitchhikers,” he explained. “I get there and I see a Jew lying wounded on the ground with the terrorist just next to him.”
“Border Police didn’t waste a second taking him out,” said Martziano.
According to reports, a Palestinian man approached a Border Police check post near the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, when he took out a knife and lunged at a Jewish man in his 40s, stabbing him in the upper torso.
Border Police immediately shot the Palestinian attacker and killed him. The victim was treated by Magen David Adom paramedics on site, and then rushed to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where medical personnel were trying to save his life.
“About two hours ago, a man in his 40s arrived in critical condition,” Doctor Ofer Marin told Army Radio. “His life is still in danger.”
Israel has been coping with ongoing stabbings and occasional shootings and car-ramming attacks by Palestinian terrorists in a wave of violence that began in September. Israeli security officials have said they remain unconvinced that such attacks, which have been occurring on a near-daily basis, will end anytime soon.
