Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon chastised the Palestinian Authority’s chief negotiator Saeb Erekat on Monday for promoting violence against Israelis, following a Palestinian terror attack in Jerusalem that left 14 Israelis wounded, among them a baby.
Shortly after the incident, in which a 21-year-old Palestinian rammed his car into a group of civilians at a bus stop near the entrance to the Israeli capital, Danon told UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that such “horrendous acts of terror are a direct result of the malicious incitement and violent rhetoric coming from the highest levels of leadership of the Palestinian Authority.”
He then criticized Erekat for paying condolences on Dec. 5 to the family of a Palestinian terrorist who shot an Israeli soldier and civilian.
“When the Palestinian Authority’s chief negotiator in the peace process visits the home of a known terrorist and advocates violence, it is no wonder that Israel’s repeated calls to the Palestinians for a resumption of the peace talks fall on deaf ears,” Ambassador Danon told the UN secretary general.
This statement echoed earlier comments made by Danon in a letter to the UN Secretary General and the Security Council, in which he called for condemnation of the PA’s “constant” incitement, and urged the UN to call on the PA to “put an end to this culture of hate once and for all.”
