“Bar Refaeli doesn’t belong bars,” the New York Post’s Page 6 announced, tongue-in-cheek on Sunday.

Refaeli, the Israeli supermodel whose face and body grace ads across the globe, was arrested last week for tax evasion, mere months after her highly cited September 24 wedding to Israeli businessman Adi Ezra.

The New York Post set out to half-mock, half-defend the blond, blue-eyed international household name — who had a long much gossiped-about relationship with mega movie star Leonardo DiCaprio a few years ago — by producing a 52-second video poking fun at her “model” behavior.

Though it’s not the stuff that evidence in court is made of, the clip provides some comic relief, as well as a bit of insight into how Refaeli is perceived in the Big Apple – or at least among members of certain circles where her talents are regarded as cash cows.

Refaeli’s attorney is arguing that there is no basis for the case against his client, whose permanent residence is in question, due to her incessant traveling.

In addition, one of the charges lodged by the Israeli Income Tax Authority is that Refaeli has received multi-millions in “celebrity discounts” on items as expensive as apartments and luxury cars.

The companies providing discounts for celebrities say it is in their interests to have famous people promoting their goods simply by wearing, living in or driving them. But, say Israeli authorities and police, such arrangements constitute the kind of business deals that are not tax exempt.
