The ISIS terrorist Amedy Coulibaly, who stormed a kosher supermarket in Paris about a year ago and killed four victims, told hostages he wanted to die a “martyr” almost immediately after launching his siege, a hostage revealed in a new documentary about the attack.
“I asked him if he wanted money,” the victim said in the BBC clip. “He said, ‘You really don’t get it. I’ve come to die a martyr. To avenge the name of Allah and His prophet Muhammad.'”
The woman speaking explained how Coulibaly made her close and lock the front door, just as another man was entering.
“I was so shocked I could not speak,” she recalled. “I thought, ‘What is he doing?’ I shouted, ‘Go away; you can’t come in; get out!'”
The documentary also shows how one of the employees at the Hyper Cacher supermarket managed to escape early on in the siege. He apparently ran to provide details of the layout of the supermarket to police, and described Coulibaly as a “black man.”
Meanwhile, Yoav Hattab, who was in the basement when Coulibaly launched the attack, came upstairs and, according to the storeroom manager, grabbed one of Coulibaly’s two Kalashnikov rifles and tried to shoot the terrorist. Unfortunately, Hattab’s gun jammed and Coulibaly shot Hattab twice.
“I saw Yoav in a pool of blood. Lots and lots and lots of blood,” said the first woman in the documentary.
“He died on the spot,” the storeroom manager added.
Coulibaly, a French-born child of Malian Muslim parents, stormed the Hyper Cacher supermarket just two days after two other ISIS terrorists, also friends of Coulibaly’s, killed 11 people at the Charlie Hebdo satirical magazine, also in Paris, over offensive drawings of the prophet Muhammad.
Coulibaly killed a municipal police officer in Montrouge the day before the Hyper Cacher attack.
