‘I’d Rather Be Jewish Than Muslim’ in Britain Today, Says UK Talk-Radio Host
by Shiryn Ghermezian
A UK talk-radio host said he would “rather be Jewish than Muslim at the moment in Britain.”
James O’Brien, a presenter with the London station LBC, made the comment to a Jewish caller named Maureen, during a discussion about the rise of antisemitism Britain.
O’Brien asked the 70-year-old Jewish woman whether what he said “makes sense.”
“No, I don’t think so,” she said. “Nowadays anything Israeli is Jewish so whatever happens over there…the Jews in Europe get the cop out.”
Maureen also argued that Britain is, and always was, indifferent to refugees. Before she called in, O’Brien had been saying he believes the UK’s attitude toward refugees had improved over the years and that most British people “opened their arms” to help those in need.
Maureen referenced the UK’s record in taking in Jews fleeing Nazi persecution during World War II and said it’s a lie that Britain wants to help those in need.
“Even the late King, King George, was against people coming over here because they thought they would take the jobs away from the British people. So nothing in the world has changed,” she said.
O’Brien began by trying to persuade her that “it’s better than it was,” but quickly relented. “No, I can’t hold that argument up,” he said.
The LBD host concluded their conversation saying, “You’ve knocked the stuffing out of me, Maureen.”
