JNS.org – Leading Republican presidential candidate and businessman Donald Trump on Sunday mentioned Israel when commenting on his proposed wall on the US-Mexico border, which he intends as a measure to combat illegal immigration.
“You could ask Israel about walls that work. Believe me, walls work,” Trump told a rally of his supporters in Atlanta, Reuters reported.
Israel’s West Bank security fence has prevented many Palestinian terror attacks inside of Israeli territory. In addition, a fence built along the Israeli-Egyptian border in the Sinai desert has helped reduce the number of African migrants illegally entering the Jewish state. Israel has also started the construction of a $77 million fence along its border with Jordan.
“It is part of our national security. It joins the fence that we built along the length of our border with Sinai, which blocked the entry of illegal migrants into Israel and — of course — the various terrorist movements. This move also joins the fence that we have built along our border on the Golan Heights,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in January regarding the Jordan border fence.
On Saturday, Trump further cemented himself as the front-runner for the GOP nomination by winning South Carolina’S Republican primary with just more than 32 percent of the vote, followed by the 22 percent garnered by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). After the South Carolina primary, former Florida governor Jeb Bush suspended his presidential campaign.
