Swastikas, Antisemitic Graffiti Found at 2 Indiana Universities This Week

Antisemitic symbols and graffiti were found this week at two Indiana universities, The Algemeiner has learned.
On Tuesday, Indystar.com reported that a swastika was discovered scratched into a statue in the student center at the University of Indianapolis. University President Robert Manuel sent an email to all students Tuesday morning reporting the event, stating that the action goes against the University’s core values.
“[The University] has not and will never tolerate such behavior,” he wrote, observing that the vandalism should remind students that the university is not “immune to intolerance and hate.”
Last week, the Student Senate at the University of Indianapolis failed by a very narrow margin to pass a Boycott, Divestment and Sanction (BDS) resolution against Israel, as The Algemeiner reported Monday.
On Tuesday, Indystar.com also reported that the day before, at Purdue University in West Lafayette, a swastika and an unspecified antisemitic slur had been found on a university whiteboard.
Dean of the College of Liberal Arts David Reingold emailed faculty and staff about the discovery.
“This type of hateful expression is repulsive and outside of the bounds of civil discourse. It has no place in the College of Liberal Arts and Purdue University,” Reingold wrote, and continued:
I know firsthand the human cost of virulent hate. Many in my family died during the horrors of World War II. The College of Liberal Arts and Purdue University are committed to free and open inquiry, while embracing and respecting our differences. I ask that we re-double our efforts to ensure we live up to our commitment to each other and to this university by engaging in meaningful dialogue, analysis, criticism and creative activity.
