The health and well-being of Israelis is on the rise, according to a new report described on the Hebrew news site Walla.
According to the report, released on Wednesday by Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, Israel has witnessed a tangible improvement over the last decade in the quality of life of its citizens, a large percentage of whom, when surveyed, expressed satisfaction with their lot.
The report indicated that Israelis are wealthier — with a 119 percent increase in disposable income in the 14-year period from 2000 to 2014. Corresponding to that increase, private consumption rose by 121%.
Though, according to the report, the average Israeli consumes approximately 19% less than counterparts in Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries — of which Israel has been a member since 2010 — that gap is quickly closing.
The majority of Israelis (82% of Jews, 73% of Arabs) surveyed also claimed to be in good health. A similar number (89% of Jews, 73% of Arabs) said they were satisfied with their lives.
