JNS.org – Several Jewish groups and leaders said they plan to protest against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump when he gives a speech during the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference on Monday. Several groups are also planning to boycott Trump’s speech altogether.
The campaign against Trump, dubbed Come Together Against Hate in a spin on the AIPAC conference’s theme of “Come Together,” was organized by Rabbis David Paskin and Jesse Olitzky, who created a website and Facebook group for the protest. The rabbis say that their campaign is not about disruption of the AIPAC conference itself, but rather that it intends to voice their condemnation of Trump as a presidential candidate.
“This is not about policies, this is not about parties, this is about one particular person, Donald Trump, who has encouraged and incited violence at his campaign rallies,” said Paskin, a rabbi in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., CNN reported. “We are against the hatred, the incitement of hatred, the ugliness that has engulfed this political season.”
More than 200 rabbis, cantors, and other Jewish leaders have joined the anti-Trump campaign. “We’re hoping thousands of people will join us in that protest,” Paskin said. “We’re going to be providing the antidote, we believe, to what Donald Trump is espousing.”
