Jackson Diehl
Journalist
One mainstream journalist who views Israel through a realistic lens is Jackson Diehl, the deputy editorial page editor of The Washington Post.
He has recently opined on issues central to the safety and security of Jews around the world, including the Polish government’s rightward tilt, the fallout from the U.S.-backed Iranian nuclear deal; and the absence of any real Palestinian leadership.
Earlier, at the beginning of Obama’s presidency, Diehl wrote a revealing column on the administration’s Middle East policy. In a piece titled “Abbas’ Waiting Game on Peace with Israel,” Diehl stated: “From its first days the Bush administration made it clear that the onus for change in the Middle East was on the Palestinians: Until they put an end to terrorism, established a democratic government and accepted the basic parameters for a settlement, the United States was not going to expect major concessions from Israel.
“Obama, in contrast, has repeatedly and publicly stressed the need for a West Bank settlement freeze, with no exceptions. In so doing he has shifted the focus to Israel.”
