Jeffrey Herf
History professor
Jeffrey Herf, a history professor at the University of Maryland, is an outspoken voice against the ongoing campaign among academic organizations to isolate Israel. He has written on the toxicity of the BDS movement in academia and the underhanded means used to advance BDS in the American Historical Association.
Ultimately, the AHA did not adopt any anti-Israel resolutions, either in late 2015 and again in early 2016.
“One reason for opposition to these resolutions lay in a general opposition to the politicization of a scholarly organization,” Herf stated, adding, “Yet as an organization of historians, some of us felt compelled to address the factual accuracy of the accusations contained in the resolution. We argued that it was essential that a profession devoted to seeking the truth about the past should devote careful attention to fact and evidence.”
