Jon D. Levenson, characterized as “the most interesting and incisive biblical exegete among contemporary Jewish thinkers,” is a professor of Jewish studies at Harvard Divinity School.
Levenson’s latest book is “The Love of God: Divine Gift, Human Gratitude, and Mutual Faithfulness in Judaism,” a breathtaking scholarly work that traces the origins of the concept to the ancient institution of covenant, showing how covenantal love is a matter neither of sentiment nor of dry legalism.
Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks, called Levenson one of the finest contemporary Jewish scholars, and characterized the book as “a richly rewarding study of one of the central values of Judaism.”
