After arresting an 11-year-old boy on Monday for the setting on fire of a Jewish school bus in Brooklyn, New York police apprehended and charged four additional boys with the arson, The Associated Press reported.
The four African-American boys, between the ages of 11 and 14, were charged as juveniles with arson and criminal mischief as a hate crime, according to the NYPD. The names of the youngsters have not been revealed to the public.
The arson took place on Sunday night while the bus was parked on Brooklyn Avenue in Crown Heights, outside the private girls school, Beth Rivkah. Surveillance video showed a group of boys running into the bus with pieces of cardboard and shortly after fleeing the scene as smoke billows from the vehicle.
AP noted that the bus belonged to the Bnos Chomesh Academy, a girls’ high school in Crown Heights, and is operated by BSD Trans Corp, a local Jewish-owned company. The investigation into the crime is ongoing.
