Former World Champion Boxer Rabbi Yuri Foreman Set for Friday Return to Ring

Former world champion boxer Yuri Foreman, who is also an ordained Orthodox rabbi, is set to return to the ring on Friday afternoon.
The eight-round junior middleweight match, between Foreman and journeyman Jason Davis, will take place on June 3 at the Resorts World Casino in Queens, NY. It will be over before sundown and the start of Shabbat, Foreman promised fans in a Facebook post.
Foreman was ordained as a member of the clergy under the tutelage of Dovber Pinson, a Chabad rabbi based in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Talking late last year about his return to boxing after sitting out for a while, he told The Algemeiner: “Anything you do or anything you love to do, once in a while it’s good to take a break. So, I retired for two years, but then realized that I miss it.”
Foreman’s last fight in December 2015 — in which he defeated Lenwood Dozier by unanimous decision — was the boxer’s first since 2013. The Brooklyn resident was crowned WBA super welterweight champion in 2009, becoming the first Israeli to ever hold the title.
