JNS.org – A Lebanese advertising company is facing some embarrassment over an image of an IDF soldier that it accidentally used in a social media post commemorating Lebanon’s Army Day.
The company, Virgin Ticketing Box-Office, posted a Facebook post featuring the soldier on Monday with the caption, “Always keep your eyes on us, hero,” the Israeli news website Walla reported.
Facebook users quickly noticed that the soldier in the photo was not wearing a Lebanese army uniform. The post was since removed, but not before it went viral.
“Virgin celebrates Army Day … with a picture of an Israeli soldier!” Lebanese journalist Nour Samaha posted on her Facebook page.
“Virgin does not manage its social media accounts. An external company specializing in social media does that, and the responsibility for this mistake is, unfortunately, theirs. The picture was selected by mistake. This was not done intentionally,” said the company in a statement to Lebanese newspaper L’Orient-Le Jour.
Meanwhile, Israel is also facing some embarrassment for a documentary, aired on a Hezbollah-affiliated television network, in which IDF generals, former Defense Minister Amir Peretz, MK and former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Tomer Weinberg — an IDF soldier wounded during the Second Lebanon War in 2006 — were interviewed.
The documentary, titled “What happened in 2006,” aired July 30 on Al Mayadeen. According to Yedioth Achronoth, the interviewees believed that the footage would be used on Italian television and on the BBC.
