Israel’s Knesset Launches Initiative to Increase Special-Needs Staff

In an effort to increase the number of special-needs staff members it hires, the Knesset published a want-ad specifically geared towards job-seekers with intellectual disabilities (ID), Israel’s Channel 10 reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, the tender is for five positions: a secretary/aide for one of the legislative committees, an assistant usher, a “Green Knesset” groundskeeper and a courier.
A Knesset representative told Channel 10 that the ad was drafted with the help of the Israeli Institute on Cognitive Accessibility, to tailor it to applicants with ID.
Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein welcomed the move, saying that it was a reason to be proud. “I believe that the success of the project will incentivize government ministries and other public bodies to follow suit,” he said.
Currently there are 20 special-needs employees at the Knesset.
