JNS.org – Republican US senators announced on Tuesday plans to revise the landmark $38 billion defense aid deal with Israel, claiming Israel should receive more money.
Sens. Lindsay Graham, Kelly Ayotte, John McCain and Ted Cruz told a news conference they will introduce legislation to overturn a provision of the deal that prevents Israel from requesting additional funds from Congress and requires them to return any additional money that Congress tries to give above the $38 billion.
“This is a very dramatic moment in the US-Israel relationship between Congress and the state of Israel. Congress is not going to sit on the sidelines,” Graham said.
The new bill would also provide an additional $1.5 million in military aid to Israel and renew US sanctions on Iran that were removed in Tehran’s nuclear deal.
Republican Sens. Mark Kirk, Marco Rubio and Roy Blunt co-sponsored the bill.
Last week, Graham said Israel “left money on the table” and should not have accepted the deal which is the largest military package in US history.
