In Rosh Hashanah Video, Actress Mayim Bialik Flaunts Shofar-Blowing Skills for ‘The Maccabeats’

Award-winning actress and neuroscientist Mayim Bialik flaunted her shofar-blowing skills in a video she posted on Facebook on Thursday of a mock Rosh Hashanah “seder” she held with members of the Jewish A Cappella group, the Maccabeats.
Bialik, who plays the character of Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS comedy series “The Big Bang Theory,” exhibited her prowess in all four of the traditional notes blown from the ritual ram’s horn during the Jewish high holiday, which begins at sundown on Sunday.
The Jewish mother-of-two recounted that when she was a young girl, her rabbi saw her perform a trumpet number on the late-night program, “The Arsenio Hall Show,” and asserted that if she was able to play that wind instrument, she surely could master the shofar.
In the clip, Bialik and the Maccabeats explain the symbolism of each of the foods traditionally eaten on the Jewish New Year.
