JNS.org – Nearly 60 percent of all Arab residents of the West Bank and Gaza Strip oppose the future creation of a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines, according to a survey conducted last week by An-Najah University in Nablus.
Among the 1,362 people polled, 59.4% said they oppose the idea as a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
The survey also found that 61.5% do not believe it is possible to establish a Palestinian state along the 1967 lines because of the current political climate. Some 65.4% of Palestinians in Gaza hold this view, as compared with 59.3% in the West Bank.
Asked if Palestinians must continue with their obligations under the Oslo Accords — even though, according to the survey question, “Israel stopped supporting them” — 74% answered in the negative, while 18.2% said they must continue.
Meanwhile, some 48.7% said they oppose non-violent resistance, while 45.7 percent support it. Asked about an armed “intifada,” 55.7% said they oppose it, while 38% said they support it.
Backing of violence is higher in Gaza than in the West Bank, the poll found. 52% of Gazans support an armed intifada and 36% oppose it; in the West Bank, 29.8% support an armed intifada.
