JNS.org – Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has added his signature to a pro-Israel letter, calling, among other things, for the US Embassy to be moved to Jerusalem.
The document was organized and presented to Trump by two Christian-Zionist organizations, the American Christian Leaders for Israel (ACLI) and the International Christian Embassy Jerusalem (ICEJ).
In the letter, the ACLI asked both presidential candidates to affirm the following: relocate the US embassy to Jerusalem; renew and strengthen America’s Memorandum of Understanding with Israel; combat efforts to boycott, divest or sanction Israel; monitor and impose any new sanctions on Iran; and oppose any outside solutions to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
“The vast majority of the American people support Israel, and it is our responsibility to make sure that the next president of the United States reflects the will of the people and stands in friendship with the nation and people of Israel,” the letter stated.
Susan Michael, the ICEJ’s US director, said, “The policies Mr. Trump has agreed to will enhance Israel’s standing in the world and directly benefit the United States in security, innovation, technology and intelligence.”
The ACLI letter was signed by Evangelical leaders representing diverse groups and denominations, including: Hispanic and African American Christians, among them Jerry Johnson, CEO of the National Religious Broadcasters; Roberta Combs, president of the Christian Coalition; Rev. Sam Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference; Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America; Rev. Harry Jackson, presiding bishop of the International Communion of Evangelical Churches; Jane Hansen Hoyt, president of AGLOW International; James Dobson, president of Family Talk Radio; Janet Parshall, nationally syndicated talk show host; and Jim Showers, executive director of The Friends of Israel.
