Donald Trump Has a Special Love for the Jewish People and Israel

The US election has drawn to a close, and, in a spectacular turnabout, Donald J. Trump has been elected the 45th president of the United States. It has been a long and often painful campaign, and I would like to offer the following story to help you through your post-election experience.
On February 3, 2015, at The Algemeiner’s ‘Jewish 100’ Awards Gala, I interviewed Trump for an article I was writing for the Jewish Voice. To begin, I asked him my initial question: “Mr. Trump, how does it feel to have a Jewish daughter?” He responded, “I have a better question for you. Ask me how it feels to have Jewish grandchildren.” I asked with a smile: “Mr. Trump, how does it feel to have Jewish grandchildren?” He immediately responded, “not what I expected, but I am very honored, very honored!”
In his award acceptance speech that night, Trump mentioned what he had already told me: “I have a Jewish daughter! This wasn’t in the plan but I am glad it happened.” He concluded his remarks by saying, “We love Israel; we will fight for Israel 100 percent, 1000 percent, it will be there forever.”
Amidst the campaign rhetoric and insults and accusations, there are four clear facts: Donald Trump is totally committed to a strong and independent state of Israel; he will never stand in the way of Israel seeking its own democratic destiny; he will never force Israel to compromise its security; and he feels very positive about his relations to the Jewish people and to his family, including the Jewish members of his family.
I truly believe that he does think that he can “Make America Great Again.” Certainly, The Donald is a showman and he has made numerous mistakes, but his heart is truly in the right place.
A Trump presidency means that the state of Israel will be able to cement and reconfigure its relationship with the United States. Trump has made a commitment to destroying ISIS and terrorism, has stated that the Iran nuclear deal is the worst deal he ever saw, and has promised to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem. Trump has not hidden his commitment to Israel, has been open and vocal about it, and has a Republican House and Senate backing him in his decisions. I hope he follows through on these promises.
