Trump Will Be President; Deal With It

This was a hard-fought, ugly election. Now it’s over. To quote President Obama, the losing side has to “deal with it.” The Republicans will control the House, Senate and White House.
There are Jews who are angry? Count me among them.
Angry that synagogues can “sit shiva” over the election results. Disgusting. Even though Hillary Clinton barely won the popular vote, Donald Trump did better in the electoral college. It angers me that congregational rabbis can talk about “…the profound division and brokenness” of America at Congregation B’nai Jeshurun on Manhattan’s Upper West Side without recognizing that conservatives are the ones so often shunned and ignored.
I’m also disappointed that while all of my Israeli friends across the political spectrum wanted Trump to win, only 25 percent of American Jews voted Republican. There is no doubt that among American Jewry assimilation is soaring at dangerous rates — and that the best chance for our survival is with our more traditional brethren. Fittingly, in Borough Park, Trump got 69% of the vote.
As my friend, Assemblyman Dov Hikind, rightfully noted, the Democratic Party has abandoned Jews who care about traditional values.
There are now at least four years to watch a Republican government govern — and four years is a long time to get things done. Fittingly, Jason Dov Greenblatt, a senior Trump adviser, has confirmed he will appear at the upcoming Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) dinner. After the hostile anti-Israel Obama administration, there’s an incoming president who will stand with Israel. Is that not a welcome change?
And to my Democrat friends? Remember the health-care summit in 2010 when Obama said, “The election is over.” Well, it is. Now, buckle in.
