JNS.org – The United Nations General Assembly passed an Israel-sponsored resolution Friday concerning international innovation and development.
The resolution, entitled “Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development,” passed with the support of 123 countries, 30 opposed and eight abstaining. It focuses on ways that UN member states can remove barriers facing entrepreneurs and help foster talent within their societies.
It also seeks to increase access and opportunities for women, youth and people with disabilities, by “promoting entrepreneurship education through capacity building, training programs and business incubators.”
“This resolution is further proof of the important contributions that Israel makes to the world as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship,” Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon said in a statement.
The resolution passed despite nearly automatic opposition to all Israeli resolutions by the Arab bloc.
Danon called their opposition “hypocritical,” saying that many elements of the bill could help Mideast states.
“Every day, more and more countries are showing interest in Israel’s success,” he said. “We are proud to cooperate with countries around the world and to share knowledge and know-how as we work together to build a better world.”
